Lucky Slevin

Sometimes you have to be in the right mood for a certain movie. I seem to be in the right mood for most movies, most of the time. Or maybe it’s that I see movies so rarely that I get into the right mood right quickly. I mean, I see at most one movie every few weeks, if not every couple of months. Forget about going to the theatre - two or three times in the last year.

Nonetheless, I’ve managed to see a couple of oddball films, such as Wild Zero and Lucky Number Slevin (which Tex really appreciated as well). I don’t know what draws me to them, whether the approval is for the insanity or impossibility. But these are definitely films that only work if you’re in the right mood.

In other news, I’m tired of web sites highjacking my keyboard shortcuts. The Bank of Canada site, for example, uses accesskey-d to decrease font size, while I use accesskey-d to move to the address bar to switch away from a web site. In default Firefox installation, accesskey is “alt” in both cases. When I get tired of something, I usually figure out how to fix it - in this case:

  1. open ‘about:config’ (type it in the addressbar)
  2. search for ‘accesskey’
  3. modify ‘ui.key.generalAccessKey’ to something other than ‘18′ - ‘0′ disables it outright

You could modify the ‘ui.key.generalAccessKey’ to another control character - check the list of ASCII Control Characters (scroll through the history) for one you could use - but I’m not sure you could stack ‘em for the ctrl-shift.
