Camped on a rocky field at the side of the road outside Airlie Beach, I think if we’d driven further, we’d have ended up on a beach, and there haven’t been any cars going past here, which would stand to reason that there are no cars further along the road.
The sun is just coming up over the nearby hills and the moon is barely thinking about setting. I’m awake because I slept outside and it got fairly damp in the early hours today. We’re very close to the ocean.
Daisy and Aimee both went comatose in the early evening time, and had respect for the organization and motivation that I continued to have late at night. For me, it’s just par for the course – get the job done, then get tired.
Tomi is the guy who owns the van. He’s from Finland, classic Nordic good looks and solid build. He doesn’t really care what happens – I asked Aimee what she thought his plans: “Whatever we ask him to do,” she answered.
Chatting with the crew from New Horizons last night, they were out on the town with us. A definite mix of characters. Great fun, ended up talking about… a very wide range of topics.
Most people these days take my choice not to drink or do drugs as an admirable trait. I get respect for choosing not to do this type of stuff, I think this is helped by the fun that I exude without. A stick in the mud wouldn’t get the same treatment.
The sun is now starting to warm me, the sky looks to have very few clouds. It’s going to be a hot day. Does not feel like the end of November.
SCUBA diving is loud. The bubbles going next to your ears are loud. That’s pretty much all the noise. Snorkelling is more than just floating on the surface looking down – watched the girls dive deep with their snorkels and fins, and then mimicked. Plus using lung fullness to control buoyancy. Neat stuff, would like to do it on my own time, not as part of a tour group. Also, there is not the same personal time as with rock climbing – buddy diving is a must, which means that you are never out of sight of another person. When I climb, I’m always tied to another person, but they are not hovering nearby. They are not even climbing at the same time. I’m needing some time on my own, soon.
