Camped on a rocky field at the side of the road outside Airlie Beach, I think if we’d driven further, we’d have ended up on a beach, and there haven’t been any cars going past here, which would stand to reason that there are no cars further along the road.

No definite place to stay tonight, too many people looking for cheap/free accommodation, and not enough super-discount accommodations. Magnums, where I stayed for the night before the trip is out of dorm beds, only doubles left. There’s a camper van, but I don’t know how much space.

3 very cool days on a Whitsundays tour, on the New Horizon instead of the Talarook 3. The operators meshed us together in order to fill on one boat (32 people) instead of sailing two of them.

Kept meaning to write more about the Fraser Island trip, but never got around to it - too much going on, almost. More like felt really, really tired, and so did Daisy and Aimee, so we relaxed for the last couple of days. Last night a group showed up from their Fraser Island trip with a few Canadians on it. THey weren’t nice Canadians, though, studying in Brissy, and part of a group of 6 that over-rode all the decisions in the big group - 6 to 5 most of the time. The 5 are who we met, 3 British chicks (the girls say girlie girls) and two Israeli guys who have 2 spare seats in their car headed to Airlie Beach, the girls have gone with them, and I bus overnight tonight.

Lazy morning today, other than the 6:30 AM awake, which felt rather late, especially after the 5:30 yesterday and the 4:30 the day before. But the sun goes down early, and I’ve been getting to bed early, and that really does make a difference.

Bed time. It’s been dark for a while and Elia and Geoff have already gone to be. They work early. We go to bed early as well. It’s the way of things in Queensland, good time to work is from the 4 AM sunrise until the 10 AM heat. Aimee, Daisy and I have been working from 10 ’til 1 or 2, not the best time of day for it. Actually, more like the worst.

Working and trying to get in touch with people outside this little universe is difficult. Especially since the afternoons flow very quickly into evenings, and there is almost always a party of some description going one - people over visiting, the likes. Amazing people, Eli and Geoff.

Busy morning of work, busy afternoon of family and friends visiting the people here. Two young kids that the girls played with wonderfully for hours, Eli’s sisters’ (Sky?), and Sky’s boyfriend. It’s dinner before I know it, although my belly has been telling me for hours. Excellent food, great company, wonderful place to be. End of day, Aimee says to me: “I like it here.” Pretty much sums it up.

The dog here really likes me, but I can’t play with him too much because Eli, the woman of the house, is very small and needs him to remain a non-wrestling dog. He’s the first big dog that I’ve had a chance to actually sortof play with and he’s such a suck.

Kept calling Shane “Shawn”, or “Rainbow”. We stayed with him last night, or more, he stayed with us. Ended up camping by the Mary or May river, at a spot recommended by a local. Shane dropped us off at this Wwoof place this morning, and we’ve spent the day getting to know Eli (the woman) and Geoff (the man) who both look to be much younger than they claim to be. 5 acres of land, a horse, duck, dog, pool, they are world travellers themselves with no kids between them, but Geoff has 2, now grown up, from his previous partner.
