Today I went crack climbing - learned finger locks and hand jams on 10a and 10c pitches, respectively. It was a beautiful time of the day, it was great to be really on the rock again, not just bouldering. When Andrew invited me to come climbing today, I just knew it was the thing to do, even though there were many excuses not to.

At one point over the weekend I woke up and couldn’t see anything. All light was blocked from reaching the room in the hostel, I could not even see my hand in front of my face. Even without seeing, I knew that she was beside me. I snuggled a bit closer, she stirred and did the same. Everything was right with the world.

On top of Sulphur Mountain and there’s a disappointing absence of the smell of brimstone. The air is really rather clear, the views are spectacular and I’m now fed, my thirst is quenched and I’ve got an easy ride down.

A stop in Merritt, just when the sun is going down. The trees are yellow firebrands, standing tall out of the drab surroundings.
The dark walls of the valley are camouflage, mottled dark, almost not green evergreens on scrubby beige desert grasses.

Page after page of high-end hardware, an industry built on ever better and always obsolete.

Although there is a state of emergency in the Squamish area, due to flooding, and even though I’m in Squamish, there’s no panic. Thank you for your concerned calls and emails, but no worries - the hostel is far above flood level, we’re looking after evacuees here, and the main inconvenience is that we’ve got a boil water advisory.

I have successfully pulled of the first Thanksgiving Dinner I have ever been completely in charge of. For 22 people. Not “The first for 22 people.”, but “My first, for 22 people!” And what’s left, well, is left because no-one could walk or roll themselves up for more.

“What are you doing in my room?”. “Uhh…”. “Cleaning up the mess you made?” George’s girlfriend had knocked over a Dr. Pepper earlier, when I’d found the three of them in there, unasked. “Uhh, no… You’re room is meticulously clean!”

It’s a Thursday night and folks are out late. So I’ve put up signs and locked the doors - they may be able to wake me in order to get in. But I’m a fairly deep sleeper.
