John was most hospitable, the conversations were great. He’s studied philosophy with post-grad focus on Plato, so his thinking style is sharp and he doesn’t hesitate to ask questions to dig to the root of things.

We’ve arrived and my trip is about to begin. Yesterday was go-go-go, the van continued it’s gas-guzzling, full throttle only antics, our brakes smoked, the day was hot, but after about 8 hours of travel time we pulled in to Squamish proper.

So I got up an 11a at Lake Louise, but just got up, not clean or redpoint or anything like that. No actual falls, just inability to conquer my pump. I guess two weeks away from any regular climbing does have an impact on ones performance.

We’re in Banff park, paying 31$ a night and it would be 37 to include a fire. I don’t want to stay here too long at all. ALl the climbing is back around Canmore, Alberta, where I sortof know someone. We’ll head back that way, perhaps, tomorrow.

So the rest of the 21st was driving, the only thing of note was the gas pedal sortof breaking (it came detached from the floor, Nick fixed it with some spare screws) then arriving in Calgary and imposing on Mitch - who has been more than welcoming. Email that night I received a bit of incomplete news which left me wondering what was going on.
